Both teams competed in all SEVEN races at the event (over 3500m of racing each). The weather was great and everyone showed great enthusiasm on and off the water, and came away with some good memories to close off the season. Some highlights from the event are listed below. For reference below, Motely Crue will be referenced as "CRUE", and Born to be Wild as "WILD"...
l There were 7 teams in total at the event. Other teams included Shtoom, Lively Dragon, Halton Health Centre, and ???.
l Each team had three 200m races. Results were in the 54sec area for CRUE ("A" 2nd), and 62sec for WILD ("B" 3rd).
l The 100m Back-It-Down race was a challenge. We backed it down from docks to start, down the course, and back to the docks.
l The Slalom Flag capture race was the marquee event of the day. Both crews captured 4 of 4 flags, with CRUE placing 2nd.
l The Surprise race was a Poker race. CRUE had the fastest finish by a 60 seconds margin, but did not have a high hand.
l The 2000m race included 4 turns (instead of the usual 3).
l Ann Carmichael (WILD) bought some raffle tickets and won a 12" x 24" framed dragon boat photo!
l The Rhythm & Bones band had a surprise guest singer Mosea (paddler Zach's mom)! The Rusty Dragons got up and danced!
l We all went to Jack Astors after the regatta (45 of us)!
l Congratulations to our first-time paddlers Loretta, Alexandra, Ben and Zach. We hope you'll be back next year!
