MTCS (OPS) Oars to Discover

This brand new team was launched by dragon boat paddler Christine Wilson, in partnership with pro MeetUp organizer and kayak athlete (and much more) Jacki Lewis. This will be the inaugural season for the team. Many of the team members already know each other already the MeetUp group. Their coach will be Maria Halavrezos, who coaches the Rusty Dragons "Rusty Belles" women's team. Maria is also a veteran racing canoe paddler with extensive dragon boat experience as well. Many team members have prior dragon boat racing experience, even though this is not a prerequisite. As a result, this team will bring together athletes from three sports:dragon boat, kayak, and canoe.

LP Dragons

Practices (9): Wednesdays, 6-7 PM, May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, June 6, 13, 20, 27 at Balmy Beach.

Racing: Sunday, July 1, 2018 (Centre Island) at 16th annual DDRA (OPS) Canada Day Regatta.

January 15th Update: Registration for this team is being done through MeetUp.com as organized by Jacki Lewis. As a result, there is no SurveyMonkey registration link as with other Rusty Dragons teams. The team already has at least 21 registered members and registration fees are now being collected to confirm seats on the boat. Their first-ever race as a team will be at the DDRA Canada Day Regatta at Toronto's Centre Island, of which the Dragon Boat component is run by the Rusty Dragons. They will race in both the Community Division (two 500m races and one 200m race), as well as the Women's Race (one 200m race). Multiple medals up for grabs!

Video Review: As with other Rusty Dragons teams, this team will receive once-a-month video review (once in May, once in June), where quality video is taken out on the water for later review by both the coach and all paddlers. This is a great tool to become a better paddler.

The registration fee is $154 for this program. The free use of life jackets and paddles is included.

There will also be a pre-season team meeting arranged by Jacki and Christine.
